9 of Diamonds – A new business deal; travel; restlessness; a change of residence.
10 of Diamonds – A change in financial status, often for the better.
11 Jack of Diamonds – A youth, possibly in uniform or, a jealous person who may be unreliable. A person who brings news, generally negative, but relatively minor.
12 Queen of Diamonds – A fair-haired woman; or a woman with Earth predominating in her chart. A gossip.
13 King of Diamonds – A fair-haired or graying man, or a man with Earth predominating in his chart. A man of authority, status, or influence.
The Joker
The Joker is the only card remaining from the Tarot trumps. He corresponds to The Fool in the Tarot deck and has some of the same meanings in the regular deck of playing cards. His number is zero and he is truly a “wild card.” When the Joker appears in a reading, it means that something unexpected and uncontrolled can occur. If there are two Jokers with your deck of cards, and you choose to use the Joker in your readings, you need to add only one.
Playing Card Combinations
One significant difference between reading the Tarot and reading playing cards is the strong emphasis put on card combinations when reading playing cards. Although the concept applies to the Tarot and is certainly used, the card spreads used and the addition of the Trumps (Major Arcana) makes large numbers of multiples less likely. There are some combinations shared by both decks, especially relating to the occurrence of multiple court cards. The following chart shows interpretation of multiples of the same card of different suits in the same spread.

So, how many cards are we actually supposed to pick?
The spreads would be the same as those you use for the Tarot. The simplest spread is to pick three cards. The first card is the past. The second card and the card in the middle is the present. The third card is the future. This is great to answer a particular question quickly. Tarot cards mean different things depending if they are rigth side up or upside down. Upside down is almost always bad except for the Devil card. This means you need to be careful how you flip the cards. You should flip Tarot cards from side to side. This is not a consideration with playing cards obviously. A really good site about other spreads is at:

The Romany spread is the most widely used but you will soon find out there are actually many variations of the Romany spread. The Romany spread is not the easiest spread out there. You might start with the three card spread and then work your way to the Romany spread as you get more experienced. I actually prefer the Celtic Cross to the Romany spread.

My first fortune telling was from a regular playing cards, I took it as a joke, Whatever that aunty told me came through now if I need immediate guidance I use Tarot.
I really should right a post comparing the regular playing cards with the Tarot. I like you use both. The playing cards give very, very specific information. There is much less room for interpretation with playing cards. The Tarot gives much more abstract, psychological information and allows for more room for interpretation. An issue largely avoided, is that in both cases one has to assume either a 1) metaphysical principle of synchronicity at work or 2) mediumship to explain how cards would work. I suspect not all people are equal in their ability to draw the right cards or interpret cards once drawn. The person doing the reading is probably more important than the cards used.
I dreamt my exs brother was giving me a tarot reading. I was very excited. He handed me three playing cards. A King, Queen and Jack, I believe of hearts because I know they weren’t black cards. Thing is about 10 years ago I was told that I should read with playing cards by my friend and medium.
Glad you are having fun. There are several advantages to playing cards. Playing cards are ubiquitous. Playing cards do not have the major arcana which is very difficult to interpret. The meanings of playing cards are more straightforward than the tarot.

While card reading and astrology are both systems of divination they are actually quite different. In card reading a higher force is supposed to be guiding how the cards lay out and the principle of synchronicity is at work. Arthurd Koestler is probably the biggest and most “scientific” of synchronicity but this idea is in contrast with the much more accepted principle of casuality. Astrology in theory could and is done by computers. You can also attempt to test out the results of astrology through demographic statitics and the following site does an excellent job of this:

You use the same spreads for Tarot and Playing Cards. But… the Tarot cards have a very different meaning upside down so you flip the cards upside from right to left not top to bottom! With the playing cards it doesn’t matter but you might as well get into the habit of flipping right to left so you are ready to use the Tarot as well. Also I think it just looks better and you use less table space and that is a good habit to get into since sometimes you are doing cards on a plane or bus or wherever and table space is at a premium in those situations.
The Celtic Cross is a good one but takes a while and is not easy:
Also try the five card spread. Its kind of one step past the three card spread but easier than the Celtic Cross.

Cartomancy, telling fortunes with cards, is a type of divination. You are getting in touch with a higher power, however you define that power. You need to shuffle the cards with an appropriate spiritual mind set and rely on your intuition. Stop shuffling when your intuition tells you to stop shuffling. I have my own personal style for shuffling the cards but that’s just me. Whatever type of shuffling the cards feels right is the right way for you. You can use any of the standard Tarot spreads but the good news is you don’t have to be careful about how you turn over the cards unlike the tarot. In the tarot upside down cards have a different meaning the right side up cards but playing cards are symmetrical vertically. In the case of Taro cards you turn over the cards from side to side not up to down but this doesn’t matter in playing cards. I hope this answers your question. Maybe I should make a video someday.

Confused.com – I always thought Clubs equated to Pentacles in tarot and Diamonds equated to wands? They appear the opposite way in your card suit headings above? Is that a typo? or did I learn incorrectly many years ago? x

My grandmother used to read cards this way. I am SOOOO happy to have found this site. Thank you so much. She did a thing where you cut the deck 3x while concentrating on your wish & then you pick a card & she tells you if you will get your wish. Nine of Hearts was usually an absolute yes. Then she had you shuffle again and she did 7 piles, To yourself, To your home, to the one you love, what happens next, what you least expect, whats sure to come true and your wish. Now she got the deck to only 49 cards. she’d take out the card for you, like mine was always a queen of hearts because I am blonde, then 2 others but I have no idea which 2 she’d take out. Are you familiar with this type of reading? She was from a long line of french gypsies and this was passed down but I never committed to memory, sadly. Wish I’d paid more attention. She was GOOD.

You can’t control the world but YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE WORLD! One guy loses his job and gets back up and learns from his mistakes and gets back in there. Another guy feels sorry for himself and loses valuable time looking for a job. Make a list of what you are going to do in terms of job hunting each day and do that list each day. Focus on the daily task. Also if you can find free yoga or free meditation classes near by then look into taking those classes. Unemployment is incredibly stressful. The more you stress then the more you look stressed out at interviews and the less likely you are to get a job. If you can do some job networking at the same time as the class then do so. If you smile then the world smiles with you!

My fiance’s grandmother used to read playing cards very well. Her mother was even greater. The local police turned to her regularly, which her insight and abilities were so advanced that news travelled and eventually the FBI became regular visitors as well. My fiance and I cannot remember the exact meanings of some cards and combinations, but we always saw the cards read straight across using the entire 52 card deck. I remember the 8 clubs was medicine/drugs, 10 diamonds was money, 10 hearts wad true love, 6 spades jealousy, A diamonds phone call, 8 diamonds job…I have some cards I cut and they’re very strange…the way they line up. Everytime I cut, there are always cards paired…such as two 3’s or two 5’s…this last time I had three queens, but then a little further, there were three tens as well. This was an actual dream? Wow! I do have a master’s in ed. psych and would say there is some sort of “life is a game” theme at work here. The Joker might represent the Jungian trickster and signify major changes in your life. Gold signifies wealth, so perhaps major change in income. 2 represents duality. 3 represents a triad. Maybe one option means less choices and the other more choices. Black versus white? A stark choice?

Reverse! Normally playing cards don’t have an up or down unlike the tarot but the ace does!
Not RED, reverse! basically if the ace is upside down then its bad fortune and only the ace can be upside down.

I had a reading today in which the lady used playing cards which I found intriguing. What I am wondering is how did she decide what card represented me. She took the card that represented me (queen of clubs) out of the deck before doing my reading so I did not choose this card. Then she asked me to shuffle the deck, choose 31 cards and afterwards she took the queen of clubs and asked me to put it anywhere in the cards I had chosen and then she laid them out and read the cards based on where the queen of clubs was in the layout and what the other cards meant because of this. I’m just wondering what kind of reading/spread was this and why did she choose the queen of clubs for me or how would I know if I decided to read for myself which card represents me?

This is one of precious ancient wisdom I have been looking for. In our tradition and culture, as most call it “black magic” for us is divine wisdom from God, those practicing it sometimes they use deck cards.
I always wondered how they discover you fate…… but somehow I can relate.
Do you believe that some people do not use a particular spread. My grandfather used all 52 cards when reading his deck. I sometimes do 3 recent past, and then a 9 card spread 3 present and 6 future. I have been very accurate so far as what I hear and see on my life currently.

The 3&6 of spades symbolize problems in the past. The jack of diamonds in probably your ex- now and the 2 of hearts is a good sign for the future. This assumes that the order of the cards is as given.
